“Invitation and overture” is a commissioned piece I wrote for the "Slopera" a musical and an event of Staad in da Maak that took place in Rotterdam as a final act of the comunity and housing project "Almondestraat" in the end of September 2020.

Instrumentation:

2 sampled organs
2 sampled pianos
sampled light pole
sampled voices

sampled orchestra

The piano samples were recorded at Almondestraat N° 197 in the cafè "Keju Kitchen".
The samples of the organ have been recorded in Almondestraat N° 181 in the studio of Good Times Bad Times Radio.
The samples of the light pole have been recorded near the tennis table all the way down to Almondestraat N° 171.
The orchestral samples are taken from Jan Van Gilse's Thjil recorded on June 5, 1980 at the Circustheater.
The voices samples were recorded between June and August 2020 in Almondestraat - Rotterdam.

The lamppost is the alpha and omega, is the primordial noise that generates and destroys. The piano and the organ build the formal scaffolding of the work weaving a dialectic relationship based on imitation/contrast through the use of 4 complementary two-by-two chords. The orchestra intervenes and moves freely between the empty spaces of this chordal architecture. All this, as a whole therefore is ment to be a ferry for the audience from the Almondestraat 3032CD to the Almondestraat onirica of the first act of Slopera Musical.
